Road to be resurfaced through Funtington- After a long wait WSCC Highways have been given the go ahead to re-surface the B2178 through East Ashling. The only down side to this is that the work will be starting promptly on 2 April 2019. Highways, ideally, would have liked the opportunity to discuss this with the wider community in more detail before works commence; as with the resurfacing of the B2178 through Funtington. However, this will prove difficult in the time scales involved. The experienced team behind the resurfacing and repositioning of some of the white lines through Funtington are the same team involved with this project. They have followed similar principles and listened to proposals already put forward to them in the past by the East Ashling Residents Association. In terms of the proposals, they are relatively straightforward and there is only so much that can be done, but essentially they intend to remove the existing road markings and replace them with the lining, omitting the centre line wherever possible to provide a better sense of place and give road users less visual reinforcement, which in turn will hopefully influence driver behaviour and have a positive effect on vehicle speeds. Due to the prominent bends in the village we do need to retain some centre lines to ensure vehicle positions don’t present a safety issue or conflict. If you would like to see the plans, please contact the Parish Clerk (clerk@funtingtonpc.org) who will happily forward them to you. Due to the short consultation period and to get the information out there quickly we are sending this Grapevine message and similar information will be on the Parish website. notification via Grapevine. All feedback should be sent to the Parish Clerk no later than Friday 22 March. She will then forward any comments received to Highways. East Ashling Residents Association are in the process of trying to organise a consultation meeting next week, including representation from Highways; if a date can be arranged we will publicise this as much as possible. We are aware that many parishioners do not subscribe to the Grapevine and do not look at the website so if you know anybody who would like information about the proposed works please pass on this information.
