David Ash has been appointed as the new Chairman of the Funtington Parish Council. The June meeting was his first as Chair although, of course, he has been a Councillor for some time.  He welcomed the new Parish Councillors, of which there are 8, and also shared his views for the future of the Parish meetings. His key thoughts to make those meetings more interesting, pertinent and in line with Standing Orders are as follows:

  • Reduction in the duration of meetings – to be no longer than 1.5 hours (including 15 minutes allocated to the public) – unless any issues are of such importance that longer discussion is required
  • Alteration to the start time of the monthly meetings – from 6.30 to 6.00pm
  • Reduction in the number of Working Group
  • The agenda to be ‘driven’ by councillors and parishioners and hopefully be different for each meeting
  • Clapping, booing, cheering and use of placards will not be acceptable behaviour
  • Councillors to be open, honest and responsive to concerns raised, if not immediately then as soon as possible
  • Comments to be directed at the issue in hand and not based on the personal identity of a parishioner or Councillor
  • Concerns to be seen in the overall context of the Parish
