At a special meeting on Wednesday 27 September, Chichester District Council members refused the temptation to back Highways England’s Option 2 and see the £250m funding restored.

Now the city has until Easter to come up with a new scheme that solves years of traffic problems and unites the community to be in with a chance of the next round of billion-pound Government roads funding.

Though not guaranteed, Highways England has promised its support.
